WhatsApp officially launches the option for hidden messages
The “WhatsApp” application of “Facebook” announced the introduction of a new feature that allows messages to disappear within 7 days
The feature allows users to choose between keeping messages, or leaving them to disappear automatically after seven days, indicating that messages exchanged via WhatsApp currently remain permanently, but with the exception of the desire to recall conversations with friends and family, it is not necessary for messages to remain.
The WhatsApp team had been testing the hidden messaging feature since at least October 2019, and it was available at that time for group messaging only, but the final product works for both group and individual conversations.
The feature works with media files, allowing users to share images, videos, and hidden gif files via a messaging program.
And when you reply to a hidden message, the quoted text may remain in the chat after seven days, allowing users to see the content of the message even after it’s gone.
And if such messages are forwarded to a conversation in which the Hidden messages setting is turned off, the message will not disappear after seven days.
If the user creates a backup before the message is gone, the removable message will be included in the backup copy, and will be deleted after the user restores the backup.
While the feature is undoubtedly a useful addition to the messaging platform, WhatsApp does not add basic security features to prevent users from saving those messages before removing them from the chat.
